Hereford School of Farriery has been at the forefront of farriery training in the United Kingdom for the last fifty years, this starting in the late 1940's with Billy Watts. Whilst the location has now changed for the fourth time to a new purpose built facility, the tradition of training craftsmen of the highest calibre has been maintained. The School is now representing farriery training in Europe.

We pride ourselves with upholding the standards and tradition of the Diploma of the Worshipful Company of Farriers, whilst at the same time keeping abreast of the latest developments in Farriery and the NVQ.

Services at Hereford include:-

Supplying candidates for apprenticeships, from our Blacksmithing and Equine Studies course. These candidates will be able to work on gas and coke fires to maintain tools and make basic shoes. They will be capable of welding as well as knowing their way round a horse.

Apprentice training of a tradition nature but with all the up-to-date requirements of the NVQ for approved apprentices with the Farriery Training Service.

ATF courses to provide up-to-date details on the Apprenticeship Scheme and the ATF's role within this.

Occasional courses for experienced farriers who wish to develop further skills and knowledge. Basic material used are steel, aluminium, and plastic. Modern shoeing aids are also available to be taught, e.g., acrylics, plastics, pads and fillers.

AWCF courses for those farriers keen to continue their professional development (CPD)

The College holds Open Days in order that ATF's and trainees can view the facilities available and talk to the tutors informally
